Rosatom enterprise held a session on cutting-edge automation technologies in the nuclear industry
25.09.2026
The event was dedicated to the upcoming Nuclear Industry Workers' Day and focused on practical experience in the automation of manufacturing processes
The session “Cutting-Edge Automation Technologies in the Nuclear Industry” took place in Moscow on September 23, 2026. It was organized by Rosatom Intelligent Machines LLC (Rosatom IntelMash LLC, a subsidiary of Rosatom Service JSC, the Electric Power Division of the Rosatom State Corporation).
The event brought together representatives from the nuclear industry, the manufacturing sector, robotics solution developers, and industry associations. The practical tools to improve productivity at Russian enterprises and real-world experience with integrating robotics into production processes were the focus of the discussion.
Sergey Aleksanin, Director of Industry Projects at Rosatom IntelMash LLC, presented a report on the nuclear industry’s needs for automation. The speaker assessed the practical effects of the implementations across key project types: welding and surfacing, mechanical finishing, machine loading, logistics, and inspection operations. The significant projects and references of the company include the development of robotic solutions for welding and surfacing pipe assemblies, mechanical cleaning of pipe ends, and specialized automation solutions, including those for processing thin-walled pipes. The implemented projects are resulting in a significant reduction in labor costs, staff reductions, and increased productivity, while the comprehensive automation of new production facilities is leading to a significant increase in output. Special mention was made of the need to establish an industry-specific laboratory and testing facility for the development and adaptation of robotic solutions, which are planned to be located at the industrial robotics center in Titan (Vidnoe).
“Isolated robotization does not lead to increased labor productivity; it is necessary to develop comprehensive solutions when modernizing production. Targeted solutions will soon be replaced by comprehensive projects for the robotization and automation of production facilities, and such projects have already been launched, for example, in Rosatom Engineering Division” emphasized Alexander Butov, Technical Director of Rosatom IntelMash LLC.
Live demonstrations of robotic systems and digital twins were presented during the event-participants had the opportunity to see how technologies developed for the nuclear industry are applied in practice.
The session served as a professional forum for the industry’s engineering and technology community to gather on the eve of Nuclear Industry Workers’ Day, which is celebrated on September 28.
For reference:
The Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation is the largest producer of low-carbon electric power in Russia. Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, the Division management company, operates 10 functioning nuclear power plants, including the world’s only floating nuclear power plant (FNPP). 34 power units with a total capacity of about 29.8 GW generate about 19 % of electricity in Russia. Division enterprises provide a full range of services for commissioning, repair, maintenance and training of personnel for nuclear power units; they produce isotopes for medicine, agriculture and microelectronics; new areas of activity are actively developing within its framework (development of a network of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, biogas stations, production of industrial robots, etc.).
Rosatom Service JSC (part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation) provides servicing to energy facilities in various power industries. The company is present in almost every country with operating VVER NPP outside Russia. The geography of Rosatom Service JSC projects covers more than 15 countries around the world, from Europe to Asia. The references of Rosatom Service JSC include comprehensive projects for service life extension, maintenance and repair, supply of equipment and SPTA, nuclear infrastructure, consulting services, and training. Since 2022, the company has been actively developing the areas of renewable energy: small hydropower, biogas reactors, landfill gas. The BOOТ (build-own-operate-trade) model is implemented as a priority. Rosatom Service JSC references in the renewable energy sources sector include the design of a cascade of hydroelectric power plants in Bulgaria, HPP for an isolated power consumer in Kyrgyzstan, and the supply of equipment for the Segozerskaya HPP in Karelia. In the near future, the company is also planning to take the position of a key business participant in the construction of high-capacity bioreactors, implementing the Rosatom State Corporation’s development strategy using “green energy”. As part of the “Robotics” business line, the company offers services for the design and manufacture of robotic systems and other non-standard equipment for nuclear industry enterprises and beyond. rosatom-service.ru

The Russian industry has the goal to ensure process sovereignty and transition to the latest domestic technologies in the shortest time possible. The state and large domestic companies are channeling resources to accelerate the development of the domestic research, infrastructure, and scientific and process base. The development of human resources, innovations and new high-tech equipment allows Rosatom and its enterprises to occupy new markets, increasing the competitiveness of the nuclear industry and the Russian industry as a whole.
