A Rosatom subsidiary presented practical solutions to improve productivity at welding stations at a specialized conference in Elektrostal
31.08.2026
The key topic of discussion was the current challenges facing the welding industry, approaches to implementing automation and robotization, and import substitution for welding materials and equipment
The conference “Mechanization, Automation, Robotization, and Artificial Intelligence in Welding”, which combined informational and practical sessions, was held on August 27, 2026, in Elektrostal at the Elektrostal Institute, a branch of Moscow Polytechnic University.
The event was organized by the Moscow Interregional Interindustry Alliance of Chief Welders, the Moscow Regional Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the Elektrostal Institute (a branch) of Moscow Polytechnic University. Representatives from leading machine-building plants, research institutes, specialized universities, and industry associations participated in the conference.
Mikhail Plakhov, project manager at Rosatom IntelMash LLC, presented a report titled “Improving Welding Line Productivity: A Systematic Approach to Robotization and Selecting the Optimal Configuration”. The report reviewed practical approaches to assessing a manufacturing facility’s readiness for robotization, criteria for selecting the optimal configuration of a robotic welding system, as well as common barriers to implementation and proven methods for overcoming them. The economic aspects were given special emphasis: reducing production costs, increasing productivity, and reducing dependence on the shortage of skilled welders.
The solutions presented are based on Rosatom State Corporation’s expertise in the design and operation of robotic systems for critical infrastructure and strategic manufacturing facilities—where consistent quality and process reliability are non-negotiable.
"Our line of industrial robots under AIM brand covers the key tasks of industrial manufacturing. These include robotic welding systems with intelligent control and digital twins, systems for manufacturing casting molds using lost-wax casting, and robotic cells for repairing and restoring parts. Our solutions are already in use at Rosatom facilities and are in high demand in the oil and gas, energy, and machine-building industries. This month, we opened a Center for the Design, Development, and Debugging of Industrial Robotics Technologies. The launch of the Center at Titan will significantly expand our product line” noted Mikhail Plakhov.
Conference participants discussed the use of laser, automatic, and semi-automatic welding for critical metal structures and hard-to-weld materials, new grades of domestic welding electrodes and flux-cored wires, as well as modern methods of non-destructive testing.
The second part of the conference featured a demonstration of high-tech welding equipment, including the latest electric arc welding machines and laser systems suitable for use in mechanized, automated, and robotic systems.

The Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation is the largest producer of low-carbon electric power in Russia. Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, the Division management company, operates 11 functioning nuclear power plants, including the world’s only floating nuclear power plant (FNPP). 33 power units with a total capacity of 28.5 GW already generate about 19 % of electricity in Russia. Division enterprises provide a full range of services for commissioning, repair, maintenance and training of personnel for nuclear power units; they produce isotopes for medicine, agriculture and microelectronics; new areas of activity are actively developing within its framework (development of a network of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, biogas stations, production of industrial robots, etc.) rosenergoatom.ru
Rosatom Service JSC (part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation) provides servicing to energy facilities in various power industries. The company is present in almost every country with operating VVER NPP outside Russia. The geography of Rosatom Service JSC projects covers more than 15 countries around the world, from Europe to Asia. The references of Rosatom Service JSC include comprehensive projects for service life extension, maintenance and repair, supply of equipment and SPTA. Since 2022, the company has been actively developing the areas of renewable energy: small hydropower, biogas reactors, landfill gas. The BOOТ (build-own-operate-trade) model is implemented as a priority. Rosatom Service JSC references in the renewable energy sources sector include the design of a cascade of hydroelectric power plants in Bulgaria, HPP for an isolated power consumer in Kyrgyzstan, and the supply of equipment for the Segozerskaya HPP in Karelia. In the near future, the company is also planning to take the position of a key business participant in the construction of high-capacity bioreactors, implementing the Rosatom State Corporation’s development strategy using “green energy”. As part of the “Robotics” business line, the company offers services for the design and manufacture of robotic systems and other non-standard equipment for nuclear industry enterprises and beyond. rosatom-service.ru
Rosatom Intelligent Machines LLC (part of Rosatom Service JSC, the Electrical Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation) is Rosatom State Corporation's industry integrator in the field of robotics. The company's key expertise includes the development, production, and implementation of robotic systems and unique process solutions for operation in specific conditions.
